Infection Control - Vaccination of Health Care Workers

Vaccination of Health Care Workers

Health care workers may be exposed to certain infections in the course of their work. Vaccines are available to provide some protection to workers in a healthcare setting. Depending on regulation, recommendation, the specific work function, or personal preference, healthcare workers or first responders may receive vaccinations for hepatitis B; influenza; measles, mumps and rubella; Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis; N. meningitidis; and varicella. In general, vaccines do not guarantee complete protection from disease, and there is potential for adverse effects from receiving the vaccine.

Famous quotes containing the words health, care and/or workers:

The same soil is good for men and for trees. A man’s health requires as many acres of meadow to his prospect as his farm does loads of muck.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Those who care for their parents will be cared for by their children.
    Chinese proverb.

The industrial world would be a more peaceful place if workers were called in as collaborators in the process of establishing standards and defining shop practices, matters which surely affect their interests and well-being fully as much as they affect those of employers and consumers.
    Mary Barnett Gilson (1877–?)
