History
The centre first opened with two ice skating rinks (one large 56×26m rink and one smaller 30×15m surface) in 1981. The indoor snow slope was added in 1987.
The facility temporarily closed in June 2005 due to the running costs of the centre, but has since reopened minus the indoor slope. The financial strain was due to poor management, from the privatisation of utilities, electricity and water from the government, and also increases in the cost of public liability insurance.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“I believe my ardour for invention springs from his loins. I cant say that the brassiere will ever take as great a place in history as the steamboat, but I did invent it.”
—Caresse Crosby (18921970)
“The history of his present majesty, is a history of unremitting injuries and usurpations ... all of which have in direct object the establishment of an absolute tyranny over these states. To prove this, let facts be submitted to a candid world, for the truth of which we pledge a faith yet unsullied by falsehood.”
—Thomas Jefferson (17431826)
“A great proportion of the inhabitants of the Cape are always thus abroad about their teaming on some ocean highway or other, and the history of one of their ordinary trips would cast the Argonautic expedition into the shade.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
