The Temple interior was decorated in 1909-1917. The temple was restored in 1998-1999 following a fire and is the only one of its kind dedicated to Hung Shing in Australia. The temple is of historical and architectural significance to Sydney's Chinese community. Architecturally, the building is significant for its combination of Cantonese design, local Sydney materials and Federation era Australian detailing.
