Hoppers Crossing Railway Station - History

History

Hoppers Crossing station opened on 16 November 1970, on the Werribee side of the adjacent level crossing. It was relocated to the Flinders Street side of the crossing in 1983 in conjunction with the electrification of the line to Werribee.

The name of the area, and of the station, arises from the fact that Stephen Hopper (1832-1908) was an early resident of the area, and was also employed to open and close the railway gates at the level crossing adjacent to where the station is now situated.

The proposed Williams Landing railway station is located between Aircraft and Hoppers Crossing.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

Literary works cannot be taken over like factories, or literary forms of expression like industrial methods. Realist writing, of which history offers many widely varying examples, is likewise conditioned by the question of how, when and for what class it is made use of.
    Bertolt Brecht (1898–1956)

Humankind has understood history as a series of battles because, to this day, it regards conflict as the central facet of life.
    Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (1860–1904)

I am not a literary man.... I am a man of science, and I am interested in that branch of Anthropology which deals with the history of human speech.
    —J.A.H. (James Augustus Henry)
