“Language was not powerful enough to describe the infant phenomenon. Ill tell you what, sir, he said; the talent of this child is not to be imagined. “Canst thou not minister to a mind diseased,
Pluck from the memory a rooted sorrow,
Raze out the written troubles of the brain,
And with some sweet oblivious antidote
Cleanse the fraught bosom of that perilous stuff
Which weighs upon the heart?”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
“But what do you keep of me?
The memory of my bones flying
up into your hands.”
—Anne Sexton (19281974)
