History

Henri-Lloyd Limited was founded in 1963 in Manchester by Angus Lloyd and Henri Strzelecki, who became known as "Mr Henri" or "Waterproof Henry."

Strzelecki was a soldier in the Polish Army during World War II. In 1946, Strzelecki was awarded both Polish and British military medals. Settling in Manchester at the end of the Second World War, Strzelecki or ”Mr Henri” as he became known, studied textiles and design before working with local clothing companies in Manchester.

In 1985, Strzelecki was given the Member of the Order of the British Empire by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This followed in 1986 and 1987 by two Queen's Awards for Export Achievement.

Henri Strzelecki died December 26, 2012, aged 87.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

The second day of July 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more
    John Adams (1735–1826)

In history the great moment is, when the savage is just ceasing to be a savage, with all his hairy Pelasgic strength directed on his opening sense of beauty;—and you have Pericles and Phidias,—and not yet passed over into the Corinthian civility. Everything good in nature and in the world is in that moment of transition, when the swarthy juices still flow plentifully from nature, but their astrigency or acridity is got out by ethics and humanity.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

The history of modern art is also the history of the progressive loss of art’s audience. Art has increasingly become the concern of the artist and the bafflement of the public.
    Henry Geldzahler (1935–1994)
