Famous quotes containing the words helen hayes, helen, hayes and/or acting:

Actors work and slave—and it is the color of your hair that can determine your fate in the end.
    Helen Hayes (1900–1993)

You must never throw away things that are worth good money.
Abraham Polonsky, U.S. screenwriter, Frank Butler, and Helen Deutsch. Mitchell Leisen. Lydia (Marlene Dietrich)

The [Loyal] legion has taken the place of the club—the famous Cincinnati Literary Club—in my affections.... The military circles are interested in the same things with myself, and so we endure, if not enjoy, each other.
    —Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822–1893)

Between the acting of a dreadful thing
And the first motion, all the interim is
Like a phantasma or a hideous dream.
The genius and the mortal instruments
Are then in council, and the state of man,
Like to a little kingdom, suffers then
    The nature of an insurrection.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
