A home haunt is a stripped down version of a haunted attraction. A home haunt usually takes place inside a person's home or on their lawn. One can expect to see homemade props or animatronics, detailed rooms, special effects and costumed characters. The vast majority of home haunts are nonprofit or ask for donations; the money may go towards a charity or cause. Home haunts are usually open for a couple of hours on the weekend of Halloween or a few weekends in October.

Famous quotes containing the words home and/or haunt:
“Funny aint it. Here I am worrying about a woman. Men dont worry much about women when theyre around. But when it gets way off from home like we are now, and where he knows hes going a lot further away ... I mean thats when a woman gets workin in your mind. You reckon youre a fool for not noticin before how, how big a part of things they be. There aint nothin like seein a womans face.”
—Dudley Nichols (18951960)
“Your child...may not call you or other people names.... Dont be tempted to gloss over this issue. You may be able to talk to yourself into not minding being called names, but this decision may come back to haunt you in later years. If you let a preschooler speak disrespectfully to you now, youll have a much harder time of it when your child is a preteen and the issue resurfaces, which it is likely to do then.”
—Lawrence Balter (20th century)
