Eligibility
As the National Olympic Committee (NOC) for the United Kingdom, the British Olympic Association (BOA) membership encompasses the four Home Nations of the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales), plus the three Crown dependencies (Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey), and all but three of the British overseas territories (Cayman Islands, British Virgin Islands and Bermuda having their own NOCs).
Representatives of the devolved Northern Ireland government, however, have objected to the name "Team GB", which they argue creates a perception that Northern Ireland is not part of the British Olympic team, and have called for the team to be renamed as Team UK.
Athletes from Northern Ireland can elect to represent either Britain or Ireland at the Olympics, as Northern Irish people are legally entitled to dual citizenship.
