Competition

Merchant services is a very competitive industry especially when it comes to credit card processing. Among the thousands of firms offering merchant services in the United States a few have been more dominant than others.

  • First Data - Founded in 1969, First Data currently employees 33,000 workers and has become one of the nation's largest payment processors, specializing in credit card processing, ATM processing and electronic check acceptance.
  • GlobalPay - although Global Payments and GlobalPay have a very similar name they are not associated with each other. GlobalPay specializes in payment processing through wireless devices and e-commerce systems, as well as traditional retail solutions.

Famous quotes containing the word competition:

Knowledge in the form of an informational commodity indispensable to productive power is already, and will continue to be, a major—perhaps the major—stake in the worldwide competition for power. It is conceivable that the nation-states will one day fight for control of information, just as they battled in the past for control over territory, and afterwards for control over access to and exploitation of raw materials and cheap labor.
    Jean François Lyotard (b. 1924)

Never before has a generation of parents faced such awesome competition with the mass media for their children’s attention. While parents tout the virtues of premarital virginity, drug-free living, nonviolent resolution of social conflict, or character over physical appearance, their values are daily challenged by television soaps, rock music lyrics, tabloid headlines, and movie scenes extolling the importance of physical appearance and conformity.
    Marianne E. Neifert (20th century)

Mothers seem to be in subtle competition with teachers. There is always an underlying fear that teachers will do a better job than they have done with their child.... But mostly mothers feel that their areas of competence are very much similar to those of the teacher. In fact they feel they know their child better than anyone else and that the teacher doesn’t possess any special field of authority or expertise.
