Glenelg High School - School Spirit

School Spirit

Glenelg's school spirit includes the distinctive use of cowbells at sporting events, stemming from the high school's early history, when bells on the cows from the farm adjacent to the athletic fields could be heard during games. This is mainly practiced by the parents of graduating seniors on the football team or part of the Marching Unit.

Famous quotes containing the words school and/or spirit:

While most of today’s jobs do not require great intelligence, they do require greater frustration tolerance, personal discipline, organization, management, and interpersonal skills than were required two decades and more ago. These are precisely the skills that many of the young people who are staying in school today, as opposed to two decades ago, lack.
    James P. Comer (20th century)

To higher or lower ends, they [the majority of mankind] move too often with something of a sad countenance, with hurried and ignoble gait, becoming, unconsciously, something like thorns, in their anxiety to bear grapes; it being possible for people, in the pursuit of even great ends, to become themselves thin and impoverished in spirit and temper, thus diminishing the sum of perfection in the world, at its very sources.
    Walter Pater (1839–1894)
