POLITICAL CAREER

He was first elected as a School Trustee for the Simcoe County Board of Education. (1973-74). He was twice elected to the local provincial legislature as MPP for the local riding of Simcoe Center. (June 7, 1977 and March 19, 1981) He was appointed by Premier Davis as Parliamentary Assistant to Attorney General Roy McMurtry (May 19, 1981) and subsequently appointed to cabinet as the Solicitor General for the Province of Ontario. (February 13, 982 leaving the Sol. Gen. February 8, 1985). He retired as MPP May 2, 1985.

During his three year term as Solicitor General he was responsible for managing a multimillion dollar budget, staff in excess of 6000 people, including the Ontario Provincial Police, public security responsibilities, emergency measures, coroners, private detectives, firefighters, a forensic laboratory, the Police College and the Fire College.
