Later Life and Family

Curry married Chloe Donnelly Boone in 1848, the daughter of ferry operator Alphonso Boone. Alphonso operated Boones Ferry and was the grandson of Daniel Boone. Curry and Chloe had five children. After leaving office, Curry attempted a 1860 run for the United States Senate, losing by one vote in the State Legislature.

He served as editor of the Portland Advertiser from 1861 to 1862, followed by editing Portland's Evening Journal in 1876. He also returned to making jewelry, and settled in Boone's Landing (now Wilsonville). George Law Curry died on July 28, 1878, at the age of 58 and was buried at Lone Fir Cemetery in Portland. Curry County in Southern Oregon was created in 1855 while he was in office and was named in his honor.

Famous quotes containing the words life and/or family:

“Maman”, said Annaïse, her voice strangely weak. “Here is the water.”
A thin blade of silver came forward in the plain and the peasants ran alongside it, crying and singing.
    ...
“Oh, Manuel, Manuel, why are you dead?” moaned Délira.
“No”, said Annaïse, and she smiled through her tears, “no, he is not dead”.
She took the old woman’s hand and pressed gently against her belly where new life stirred.
    Jacques Roumain (1907–1945)

I had rather be shut up in a very modest cottage, with my books, my family and a few old friends, dining on simple bacon, and letting the world roll on as it liked, than to occupy the most splendid post which any human power can give.
    Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826)
