Domestic Cricket Career

In the Sheffield Shield competition, he captained New South Wales between 1988 and 1992, leading the team to the title in the 1991–92 final, his final first-class game. In all, he captured 395 wickets for NSW. His positive, aggressive captaincy influenced NSW colleagues and future Australian captains Mark Taylor and Steve Waugh. He had a brief playing stint for Lancashire in the English County Championship.

Famous quotes containing the words domestic, cricket and/or career:

    Let me obtain forgiveness of thee, Samson,
    Afford me place to shew what recompence
    Towards thee I intend for what I have misdone,
    Misguided; only what remains past cure
    Bear not too sensibly, nor still insist
    To afflict thy self in vain: though sight be lost,
    Life yet hath many solaces, enjoy’d
    Where other senses want not their delights
    At home in leisure and domestic ease,
    John Milton (1608–1674)

    All cries are thin and terse;
    The field has droned the summer’s final mass;
    A cricket like a dwindled hearse
    Crawls from the dry grass.
    Richard Wilbur (b. 1921)

    He was at a starting point which makes many a man’s career a fine subject for betting, if there were any gentlemen given to that amusement who could appreciate the complicated probabilities of an arduous purpose, with all the possible thwartings and furtherings of circumstance, all the niceties of inward balance, by which a man swings and makes his point or else is carried headlong.
    George Eliot [Mary Ann (or Marian)
