General William J. Fox Airfield

General William J. Fox Airfield (IATA: WJF, ICAO: KWJF), locally known as "Fox Field" is an airport located in Lancaster, California serving the Antelope Valley region of northern Los Angeles County. Although the airport is used primarily for general aviation, there are limited scheduled cargo operations, and the U.S. Forest Service maintains an airtanker base there, which becomes one of the principal hubs of firefighting efforts during fire season. An Antelope Valley Hospital helicopter is also based here.

Fox Field is also the home of the Milestones of Flight Aviation Museum.

On August 13, 2009, a Los Angeles Police Department helicopter, made a hard landing at the airfield during a training exercise.

Famous quotes containing the words general and/or fox:

In truth, a mature man who uses hair-oil, unless medicinally, that man has probably got a quoggy spot in him somewhere. As a general rule, he can’t amount to much in his totality.
    Herman Melville (1819–1891)

Perhaps of all our untamed quadrupeds, the fox has obtained the widest and most familiar reputation.... His recent tracks still give variety to a winter’s walk. I tread in the steps of the fox that has gone before me by some hours, or which perhaps I have started, with such a tip-toe of expectation as if I were on the trail of the Spirit itself which resides in the wood, and expected soon to catch it in its lair.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
