Fundamental Diagram of Traffic Flow

The fundamental diagram of traffic flow is a diagram that gives a relation between the traffic flux (vehicles/hour) and the traffic density (vehicles/km). A macroscopic traffic model involving traffic flux, traffic density and velocity forms the basis of the fundamental diagram. It can be used to predict the capability of a road system, or its behaviour when applying inflow regulation or speed limits.

Famous quotes containing the words fundamental, diagram, traffic and/or flow:

This declared indifference, but as I must think, covert real zeal for the spread of slavery, I can not but hate. I hate it because of the monstrous injustice of slavery itself. Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865)

If a fish is the movement of water embodied, given shape, then cat is a diagram and pattern of subtle air.
    Doris Lessing (b. 1919)

The two hours’ traffic of our stage.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

The joys of the evil flow away like a torrent.
    Jean Racine (1639–1699)
