The Fry family was prominent in England especially Bristol, in the Society of Friends, and in the confectionery business in the 18th, 19th, and early 20th centuries. They were a very prominent family in the Society of Friends or Quakers, and intermarried with many of the other prominent Quaker families, being involved both in business and social and philanthropic causes. Although at their peak during the 19th century, the Fry family are still a very active family within England, specifically in Somerset where many current family members can trace their families geographical location to within Somerset as far back as 1200AD.

Famous quotes containing the words fry and/or family:
“The difference between tragedy and comedy is the difference between experience and intuition. In the experience we strive against every condition of our animal life: against death, against the frustration of ambition, against the instability of human love. In the intuition we trust the arduous eccentricities were born to, and see the oddness of a creature who has never got acclimatized to being created.”
—Christopher Fry (b. 1907)
“English people apparently queue up as a sort of hobby. A family man might pass a mild autumn evening by taking the wife and kids to stand in the cinema queue for a while and then leading them over for a few minutes in the sweetshop queue and then, as a special treat for the kids, saying Perhaps weve time to have a look at the Number Thirty-One bus queue before we turn in.”
—Calvin Trillin (b. 1940)
