Freedom From Torture

Freedom from Torture (previously know as The Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture) is a British registered charity which solely treats torture survivors. Since it was established in 1985, over 50,000 people have been referred to the organisation for help.

Freedom from Torture provides medical and psychological documentation of torture, a range of therapies, including psychotherapy, individual and family counselling, physiotherapy and complementary therapies and group work as well as practical advice and support. It trains health professionals and others throughout the UK to work with torture survivors.

A key area of Freedom from Torture's work is educating the public and decision makers about torture and its consequences, and advocate for torture survivors with the aim of keeping this issue on the national agenda.

Famous quotes containing the words freedom and/or torture:

The real stumbling-block of totalitarian rĂ©gimes is not the spiritual need of men for freedom of thought; it is men’s inability to stand the physical and nervous strain of a permanent state of excitement, except during a few years of their youth.
    Simone Weil (1909–1943)

When a man of genius is denied of his great love, he goes mad. His brain, instead of being clear to do his work, is tortured, so he begins to think of torture. Torture for those who have tortured him.
David Boehm, and Louis Friedlander. Dr. Richard Vollin (Bela Lugosi)
