Francesco Carotta

Francesco Carotta (b. 1946 in Veneto, Italy) is an independent Italian ancient historian and religious historian. He is mainly known for his theory that statesman Gaius Julius Caesar was the historical Jesus, that the Gospel is a rewriting of Roman historical sources, and that Christianity developed from the cult of the deified Caesar. Reactions to his theory have been mixed.
