Footstar - History

History

Footstar was created in 1996 as a spinoff of the Melville Corporation, as part of Melville's reorganization and transition into the CVS Corporation. Footstar originally consisted of two former Melville divisions, athletic shoe retailer FootAction USA and Meldisco, which operated footwear departments inside department and discount stores, primarily Kmart. Footstar also had rights to the Thom McAn shoe brand, which it sold in its Meldisco units. The Thom Mcan brand is now owned by Sears Brands, LLC. (Melville had operated the Thom McAn retail chain, which was shut down around the time of the Footstar spinoff.) In 2000, Footstar acquired the shoe retailer Just for Feet, which had filed for bankruptcy.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

In all history no class has been enfranchised without some selfish motive underlying. If to-day we could prove to Republicans or Democrats that every woman would vote for their party, we should be enfranchised.
    Carrie Chapman Catt (1859–1947)

Like their personal lives, women’s history is fragmented, interrupted; a shadow history of human beings whose existence has been shaped by the efforts and the demands of others.
    Elizabeth Janeway (b. 1913)

The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles.
    Karl Marx (1818–1883)
