Flying chess is a chess variant, based around a three dimensional board. It was invented by Dr David Eltis (a noted historian of the Military Revolution) in 1984.
Famous quotes containing the words flying and/or chess:
“The savage soul of game is up at once
The pack full-opening various, the shrill horn
Resounded from the hills, the neighing steed
Wild for the chase, and the loud hunters shout
Oer a weak, harmless, flying creature, all
Mixed in mad tumult and discordant joy.”
—James Thomson (17001748)
“Of all my Russian books, The Defense contains and diffuses the greatest warmthMwhich may seem odd seeing how supremely abstract chess is supposed to be.”
—Vladimir Nabokov (18991977)
