Femme Fatale - Sociological Views

Sociological Views

The femme fatale has generated divergent opinions amongst social scholars. Some relate the concept to misogyny and fear of witchcraft, and to male fears of feminism.

Others say the femme fatale "remains an example of female independence and a threat to traditional female gender roles," or "expresses woman's ancient and eternal control of the sexual realm."

Jungians consider the femme fatale as an expression of the negative aspect of the anima - of how the woman appears to man.

Famous quotes containing the words sociological and/or views:

Art is a concrete and personal and rather childish thing after all—no matter what people do to graft it into science and make it sociological and psychological; it is no good at all unless it is let alone to be itself—a game of make-believe, or re-production, very exciting and delightful to people who have an ear for it or an eye for it.
    Willa Cather (1873–1947)

A foreign minister, I will maintain it, can never be a good man of business if he is not an agreeable man of pleasure too. Half his business is done by the help of his pleasures: his views are carried on, and perhaps best, and most unsuspectedly, at balls, suppers, assemblies, and parties of pleasure; by intrigues with women, and connections insensibly formed with men, at those unguarded hours of amusement.
Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl Chesterfield (1694–1773)
