History
FM 511 was originally designated in 1945 from U.S. Highway 83 in Olmito to State Highway 4 near the Port of Brownsville. In the late 1940s, it was extended on the north side to include a 5-mile (8.0 km) section to the west near Olmito, and on the south side to extend into Brownsville. In 1957, this section west of Olmito was transferred to F.M. 1732.
