College Song
In June 1980, Mrs Bruwer, Head of Music, was in Salisbury, England with her family. Mr de Wet, the founder Headmaster, asked her to try to find a school song for Fairbairn while she was in England.
One evening she was sitting in Salisbury Cathedral and the gentleman sitting next to her introduced himself as the Reverend Hugh Blenkin. When she told him about her mission to find a school song, he offered to write it. The words were written by the Reverend Hugh Blenkin and the music composed by Mrs Bruwer.
The College song was sung for the first time in March 1981.

Famous quotes containing the words college and/or song:
“... when you make it a moral necessity for the young to dabble in all the subjects that the books on the top shelf are written about, you kill two very large birds with one stone: you satisfy precious curiosities, and you make them believe that they know as much about life as people who really know something. If college boys are solemnly advised to listen to lectures on prostitution, they will listen; and who is to blame if some time, in a less moral moment, they profit by their information?”
—Katharine Fullerton Gerould (18791944)
“A song is no song unless the circumstance is free and fine. If a singer sing from a sense of duty or from seeing no way to escape, I had rather have none. Those only can sleep who do not care to sleep; and those only write or speak best who do not too much respect the writing or the speaking.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
