Extremaduran Language

Extremaduran Language

Extremaduran (autonym: estremeƱu, ) is a Romance language, spoken by several hundred thousand people in Spain, in an area covering the north-western part of the autonomous community of Extremadura and adjoining areas in the province of Salamanca. It is difficult to establish the boundary between the Extremaduran and the Spanish dialects spoken in most of Extremadura. Most common people in Spain are not aware of its existence and consider it a dialect of Spanish.

Famous quotes containing the word language:

There is no such thing as a language, not if a language is anything like what many philosophers and linguists have supposed. There is therefore no such thing to be learned, mastered, or born with. We must give up the idea of a clearly defined shared structure which language-users acquire and then apply to cases.
    Donald Davidson (b. 1917)
