Evan Michael Tanner - The Thief Who Couldn't Sleep

The Thief Who Couldn't Sleep

Tanner takes an avid interest in political causes, primarily the ones existing in the late 1960s, when the series first takes place. He is also very good at "coming across money," so when meets a black-haired beauty whose Grandmother has fantastic tales of a fortune of gold European hidden under her front porch in a war-torn country, he embarks on a profitable journey. Though only intending to extract 573 pounds of pure gold, he accidentally starts a revolution in Macedonia, ends up in a Turkish jail, and gets hired by a government agency so secret that even the CIA hasn't even heard of them.

Famous quotes containing the words thief and/or sleep:

Want of money and the distress of a thief can never be alleged as the cause of his thieving, for many honest people endure greater hardships with fortitude. We must therefore seek the cause elsewhere than in want of money, for that is the miser’s passion, not the thief’s.
    William Blake (1757–1827)

... if a person is to be unconventional, he must be amusing or he is intolerable: for, in the nature of the case, he guarantees you nothing but amusement. He does not guarantee you any of the little amenities by which society has assured itself that, if it must go to sleep, it will at least sleep in a comfortable chair.
    Katharine Fullerton Gerould (1879–1944)
