European Theatre of World War I - Western Front

Western Front

The Western Front was the scene of continuous combat from the start of the war until the last day of the war, November 11, 1918. The fighting on the Western Front was mainly confined to the north-eastern part of France as well as Belgium. Most of France was not fought over, and the Netherlands remained neutral for the entire war.

The Western Front involved the allied powers of France, the British Empire, Belgium, and America fighting against the armed forces of the German Empire.

Famous quotes containing the words western and/or front:

The true use of Shakespeare or of Cervantes, of Homer or of Dante, of Chaucer or of Rabelais, is to augment one’s own growing inner self.... The mind’s dialogue with itself is not primarily a social reality. All that the Western Canon can bring one is the proper use of one’s own solitude, that solitude whose final form is one’s confrontation with one’s own mortality.
    Harold Bloom (b. 1930)

In front of dwarves one should not talk about midgets.
    Chinese proverb.
