Escalator - Etiquette

Etiquette

On some busy systems, such as those in the UK, US, Germany and China there is a policy of standing on the right. In most of Japan including Tokyo, the policy is to stand on the left, however in Osaka they stand on the right. This way, the open side of the escalators is left for those walking and overtaking. This also applies on much smaller system like for example in Prague subway system and the Toronto, Canada subway (TTC) (policies are standing on the right). The etiquette in Australia and New Zealand is to stand on the left.
