Episcopal Diocese of Dallas - The Influence of The Anglican Realignment

The Influence of The Anglican Realignment

As the Dioceses of Dallas or South Carolina, the Diocese of Western Louisiana is opposed to the ordination of gay clergy but had chosen to stay within the Protestant Episcopal Church. The Diocese of Dallas approved, at its 2006 Diocesan Convention, an amendment to the Diocesan constitution that it would break with the Episcopal Church only if that body were no longer part of the worldwide Anglican Communion. A vast majority of the Diocese of Fort Worth, on the other hand, voted to break away from the Episcopal Church in 2008. Additionally, several conservative parishes, including ChristChurch/Plano, purchased their properties from the Diocese of Dallas and are now aligned with Anglican bodies other than the Episcopal Church.

The Episcopal Diocese of Dallas is led by the Rt Revd James Stanton, sixth bishop of the diocese. On March 29, 2008, the Revd Canon Paul E. Lambert, canon to the ordinary in the diocese, was elected bishop suffragan.

It is an affiliated member of the American Anglican Council, which reunites orthodox Anglicans in North America.

Famous quotes containing the words influence and/or anglican:

    Exhaust them, wrestle with them, let them not go until their blessing be won, and, after a short season, the dismay will be overpast, the excess of influence withdrawn, and they will be no longer an alarming meteor, but one more brighter star shining serenely in your heaven, and blending its light with all your day.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

    I was the rector’s son, born to the anglican order,
    Banned for ever from the candles of the Irish poor;
    The Chichesters knelt in marble at the end of a transept
    With ruffs about their necks, their portion sure.
    Louis MacNeice (1907–1963)
