Later Life
During Christmas 1315, Elizabeth, who was pregnant with her eleventh child, was visited by her sister-in-law the Queen, Isabella of France. This was a great honour, but the stress of it may have caused unknown health problems that later contributed to Elizabeth's death in childbirth. On 5 May 1316 she went into labour, giving birth to her daughter Isabella. Both Elizabeth and her daughter Isabella died shortly after the birth, and were buried together in Waltham Abbey.

Famous quotes containing the word life:
“In the country, without any interference from the law, the agricultural life favors the permanence of families.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“Tell me not, in mournful numbers,
Life is but an empty dream!
For the soul is dead that slumbers,
And things are not what they seem.
Life is real! Life is earnest!
And the grave is not its goal;
Dust thou art, to dust returnest,
Was not spoken of the soul.”
—Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (18091882)
