Episcopal Ministry
The Rev. Elijah Hedding was elected and consecrated a Bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church at the General Conference which met in Baltimore, May, 1824. Thereafter, for nearly twenty-eight years, he performed the duties of his office with great ability.
Bishop Matthew Simpson offered this assessment of Elijah Hedding's episcopacy:
- He was remarkable for promptness in duty, wisdom in council, strict integrity, and deep piety. Anxious days and sleepless nights and strong intercessions with God showed his deep solicitude for the prosperity of the churches. His pulpit power, his excellence as an officer, his administrative ability, gave him prominence in the affections and confidence of the M.E. Church.

Famous quotes containing the word ministry:
“the eave-drops fall
Heard only in the trances of the blast,
Or if the secret ministry of frost
Shall hang them up in silent icicles,
Quietly shining to the quiet Moon.”
—Samuel Taylor Coleridge (17721834)
