Baen Books published The Fire Rose. DAW Books published the remaining books in the series and as part of this invented the "Elemental Masters" series name and numbered them starting with The Serpent's Shadow. Technically, The Fire Rose is not part of the Elemental Masters series but as it follows the same theme as the series it is included here.

Famous quotes containing the word books:

Learning is, in too many cases, but a foil to common sense; a substitute for true knowledge. Books are less often made use of as “spectacles” to look at nature with, than as blinds to keep out its strong light and shifting scenery from weak eyes and indolent dispositions.... The learned are mere literary drudges.
    William Hazlitt (1778–1830)

If writers were too wise, perhaps no books would get written at all. It might be better to ask yourself “Why?” afterwards than before. Anyway, the force from somewhere in Space which commands you to write in the first place, gives you no choice. You take up the pen when you are told, and write what is commanded. There is no agony like bearing an untold story inside you.
    Zora Neale Hurston (1891–1960)
