Tuition and Financial Aid System
Almost all educational institutes in Denmark are free. This tuition-less system applies to all students:
- who have been born in Denmark;
- who hold a permanent resident visa;
- who hold a humanitarian visa;
- from countries in the Nordic Council;
- from countries in the European Economic Area or European Union.
Not only is there no tuition charged to the students, all Danish citizens (and many others meeting certain criteria) are offered monthly financial aid, called "SU" (Statens Uddannelsesstøtte which translates to The State's Educational Support), which totals about DKK 2,728 monthly if the student lives with his/her parents or guardians, and about DKK 5,486 monthly if the student lives away from his/her parents or guardians. Students can supplement the SU with low-interest government loans amounting to DKK 2,807 per month, which must be paid back upon the completion of their education.

Famous quotes containing the words tuition, financial, aid and/or system:
“Miss C_____ is ... remarkably neat in her person and is uncommonly diligent in every part of useful economy.... She hath indeed under her fathers tuition acquired ... a large share of real learning of almost all the living and dead languages. Nor was the leisure which she found for such acquirements produced by neglecting anything necessary or useful for the family, but by the most assiduous industry.”
—Sarah Fielding (17101768)
“For the merchant, even honesty is a financial speculation.”
—Charles Baudelaire (18211867)
“A man, said Oliver Cromwell, never rises so high as when he knows not whither he is going. Dreams and drunkenness, the use of opium and alcohol are the semblance and counterfeit of this oracular genius, and hence their dangerous attraction for men. For the like reason they ask the aid of wild passions, as in gaming and war, to ape in some manner these flames and generosities of the heart.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“A person, seasoned with a just sense of the imperfections of natural reason, will fly to revealed truth with the greatest avidity: while the haughty Dogmatist, persuaded that he can erect a compleat system of Theology by the mere help of philosophy, disdains any further aid, and rejects this adventitious instructor.”
—David Hume (17111776)
