Escape
On November 2, 1979, Assata Shakur, in prison serving a life sentence for the 1973 murder of a New Jersey State Trooper, escaped from the facility, after three members of the Black Liberation Army drew .45-caliber automatic pistols. Two officers were taken hostage as part of the escape and were released unharmed. Charged with assisting in her escape was her brother, Mutulu Shakur, and Silvia Baraldini. In part for his role in the event, Mutulu was named on July 23, 1982 as the 380th addition to the FBI's Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list, where he remained for the next four years until his capture in 1986.

Famous quotes containing the word escape:
“Perhaps I am no one.
True, I have a body
and I cannot escape from it.
I would like to fly out of my head,
but that is out of the question.”
—Anne Sexton (19281974)
“What does this mean? The individual,
Nature, mutation, strife?
I fell, though I am simple, still the whole
Is complex; and that life,
A huge, doomed throbbinghas a wiry soul
That must escape the knife.”
—Roy Fuller (b. 1912)
“You call yourself free? I want to hear your ruling thought and not that you have escaped a yoke. Are you such a one as was permitted to escape a yoke? There are some who threw away their ultimate worth when they threw away their servitude. Free from what? What is that to Zarathustra! But your eyes should announce to me brightly: free for what?”
—Friedrich Nietzsche (18441900)
