East 105th Street is grade-level station on the BMT Canarsie Line of the New York City Subway. Located at the intersection of East 105th Street and Turnbull Avenue in Brooklyn, it is served by the L train at all times.
East 105th Street Station was originally built in 1906 as a replacement for a former station along a steam dummy line known as the Brooklyn and Rockaway Beach Railroad. It has three tracks and a single island platform. The waiting area above the platform affords picturesque views of the trains and tracks. At the very end of this station, there was formerly a gate-protected grade crossing, the only one in the New York City Subway system. It was eliminated in 1973.
Next to the Manhattan-bound track, a stub-end track leads to the Canarsie Yard.
Famous quotes containing the words east and/or street:
“The practice of politics in the East may be defined by one word: dissimulation.”
—Benjamin Disraeli (18041881)
“During the Suffragette revolt of 1913 I ... [urged] that what was needed was not the vote, but a constitutional amendment enacting that all representative bodies shall consist of women and men in equal numbers, whether elected or nominated or coopted or registered or picked up in the street like a coroners jury. In the case of elected bodies the only way of effecting this is by the Coupled Vote. The representative unit must not be a man or a woman but a man and a woman.”
—George Bernard Shaw (18561950)
