Earthscope

EarthScope is an earth science program using geological and geophysical techniques to explore the structure and evolution of the North American continent and to understand the processes controlling earthquakes and volcanoes. Thousands of geophysical instruments will comprise a dense grid covering the continental United States. Scientists from multiple disciplines have joined together to conduct research using the large influx of freely accessible data being produced. Due to recent technological advancements, funding for a project of this scale is now practical and is being provided by the National Science Foundation (NSF). EarthScope is being constructed, operated, and maintained in alliance with UNAVCO, the Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS), Stanford University, and is conducted in partnership with the United States Geological Survey (USGS) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Several international organizations also contribute to the initiative.
