Athletics
Downey High School is part of the San Gabriel Valley League, which also includes the Dominguez High School Dons, Gahr High School Gladiators, Lynwood High School Knights, Paramount High School Pirates, and Warren High School Bears.
Downey high school maintains a great athletic tradition. The school currently boasts some of the strongest athletic programs in southern California. Recent successes include winning 8 CIF championships within the last 7 years, in sports such as wrestling, girls water polo, and boys and girls volleyball. Downey continues to expand the success of its athletic programs by showing promise in all of its sports year in and year out. The school consistently sends athletes to top-tier universities to continue their athletic careers.
