Natural History

Dovedale holds special ecological interest for its plant life, particularly the calcareous ash woods, which are considered among the best in England. There are a number of unusual plants such as slender Solomon's seal, delicate lily of the valley, Paris quadrifolia and small and large-leaved lime trees. Birds found here include Common Kingfisher, Grey Heron and Dipper.

Famous quotes containing the words natural and/or history:

    To her, my lord,
    Was I betrothed ere I saw Hermia;
    But like a sickness did I loathe this food.
    But, as in health come to my natural taste,
    Now I do wish it, love it, long for it,
    And will for evermore be true to it.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

    If you look at history you’ll find that no state has been so plagued by its rulers as when power has fallen into the hands of some dabbler in philosophy or literary addict.
    Desiderius Erasmus (c. 1466–1536)
