Dovedale Dash
The Dovedale Dash is an annual 4
3⁄4 miles (7.6 km) cross-country race along the banks of the River Dove, along Dovedale, and between the villages of Ilam and Thorpe.First organised in 1953, the Dash takes place on the first Sunday of November, although previously it was held on the closest Sunday to Guy Fawkes Night. Since then the Dash has been cancelled on four occasions, most recently in 1998, 2000 and 2004, as a result of bad weather and a waterlogged parking area.

Famous quotes containing the word dash:
“The office ... make[s] its incumbent a repair man behind a dyke. No sooner is one leak plugged than it is necessary to dash over and stop another that has broken out. There is no end to it.”
