Double Act - in Pro Wrestling

In Pro Wrestling

The stable DX or Degeneration X would be considered a "comedy duo" in the professional wrestling world. In this case Triple H would be the straight man and Shawn Michaels would be the funny man. Wrestling commentary teams have often served as comedy duos, perhaps the most famous being the comedically villainous Bobby "The Brain" Heenan and his strait-laced, down-the-middle partner Gorilla Monsoon. More recent examples would include the announce team of Jerry "The King" Lawler and Vince McMahon in the mid-1990s and later the duo of Lawler and Jim Ross during WWE's Attitude Era.

Famous quotes containing the words pro and/or wrestling:

The upbeat lawyer/negotiator of preadolescence has become a real pro by now—cynical, shrewd, a tough cookie. You’re constantly embroiled in a match of wits. You’re exhausted.
    Ron Taffel (20th century)

We laugh at him who steps out of his room at the very moment when the sun steps out, and says: “I will the sun to rise”; and at him who cannot stop the wheel, and says: “I will it to roll”; and at him who is taken down in a wrestling match, and says: “I lie here, but I will that I lie here!” And yet, all laughter aside, do we ever do anything other than one of these three things when we use the expression, “I will”?
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)
