Usage in Nepal
Pancha are popular in the Terai region and the bordering Indian states.
In 2008, the newly elected first Vice-president of Nepal, Mr. Permanand Jha sparked protest and rallies in Nepali speaking areas of the country after he took the oath wearing Dhoti-Kurta, the traditional garment of the people of Terai.
Dhoti is also a derogatory term used to refer people from India inside or outside Nepal.
