Regional Differences and Issues
As with the term RINO, regional variations between party constituencies are a factor. Many "DINOs" come from more socially or fiscally conservative states or districts where a more liberal politician would face difficulty. Some of these politicians are descendants of the Southern-based Dixiecrats, a once prominent faction within the Democratic Party, but that shrank rapidly following the party's support of civil rights legislation in the 1960s.

Famous quotes containing the words differences and/or issues:
“The extent to which a parent is able to see a childs world through that childs eyes depends very much on the parents ability to appreciate the differences between herself and her child and to respect those differences. Your own children need you to accept them for who they are, not who you would like them to be.”
—Lawrence Balter (20th century)
“The universal moments of child rearing are in fact nothing less than a confrontation with the most basic problems of living in society: a facing through ones children of all the conflicts inherent in human relationships, a clarification of issues that were unresolved in ones own growing up. The experience of child rearing not only can strengthen one as an individual but also presents the opportunity to shape human relationships of the future.”
—Elaine Heffner (20th century)
