Differential Steer Drive Dead Reckoning
Here are the dead reckoning equations for the coordinates (x and y), and heading for a differential drive robot with encoders on both drives:
where are the encoder ticks recorded on drive one, are the encoder ticks recorded on drive two, is the radius of each drive wheel, is the separation between the wheels, and is the number of encoder ticks recorded in a full rotation of a wheel.

Famous quotes containing the words differential, steer, drive, dead and/or reckoning:
“But how is one to make a scientist understand that there is something unalterably deranged about differential calculus, quantum theory, or the obscene and so inanely liturgical ordeals of the precession of the equinoxes.”
—Antonin Artaud (18961948)
“Earth laughs in flowers, to see her boastful boys
Earth-proud, proud of the earth which is not theirs;
Who steer the plough, but cannot steer their feet
Clear of the grave.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“The open frontier, the hardships of homesteading from scratch, the wealth of natural resources, the whole vast challenge of a continent waiting to be exploited, combined to produce a prevailing materialism and an American drive bent as much, if not more, on money, property, and power than was true of the Old World from which we had fled.”
—Barbara Tuchman (19121989)
“Science is a cemetery of dead ideas.”
—Miguel de Unamuno (18641936)
“With earths first clay they did the last man knead,
There of the last harvest sowed the seed,
And what the first morning of creation wrote,
The last dawn of reckoning shall read.”
—Edward Fitzgerald (18091883)
