Electoral Politics
Robinson entered electoral politics by declaring as a Democratic candidate for Ohio’s 12th U.S Congressional seat in early January 2008. As a first-time candidate, he unexpectedly won the three-way Democratic primary race (against the endorsed candidate and one other) with 51% of the vote. Robinson then entered the general election against four-term Republican incumbent Pat Tiberi. Robinson, with total campaign expenditures of $181,000 (vs. Tiberi’s $1,714,000) lost the general election by a margin of 42.2% to 54.8% (with Libertarian candidate Steve Linnabary gaining 3%), winning Franklin County by nearly 10,000 votes while losing Delaware and Licking Counties by wide margins.
