Dana Hills High School - Cross Country

Cross Country

The Dana Hills' boys' and girls' cross country teams almost always finish as league champions in the South Coast League, which is arguably one of the most competitive in Southern California. In 2006, the boys' team appeared in CIF-SS Finals for the 27th time under Coach Tim Butler. The boys' team later went on to the state meet where they placed 9th in D1. Continuing their success, the following week they participated in the first ever Nike Team National Open Race where they placed 3rd overall. Dana Hills has one State Championship plaque which they received in 1988, two 2nd place finishes, and two 3rd place finishes. The program is also the most successful in the state of California with its 30+ year history. In 2007 and 2008, the boys team won CIF Div. 1 Championships. In 2008, the girls' team also won the CIF Div. 1 Championship. This has been the first time ever that any school in CIF Div. 1 won both boys and girls in the same division state championship for cross country.

Famous quotes containing the words cross and/or country:

He is asleep. He knows no longer the fatigue of the work of deciding, the work to finish. He sleeps, he has no longer to strain, to force himself, to require of himself that which he cannot do. He no longer bears the cross of that interior life which proscribes rest, distraction, weaknesshe sleeps and thinks no longer, he has no more duties or chores, no, no, and I, old and tired, oh! I envy that he sleeps and will soon die.
    Albert Camus (1913–1960)

How soon country people forget. When they fall in love with a city it is forever, and it is like forever. As though there never was a time when they didn’t love it. The minute they arrive at the train station or get off the ferry and glimpse the wide streets and the wasteful lamps lighting them, they know they are born for it. There, in a city, they are not so much new as themselves: their stronger, riskier selves.
    Toni Morrison (b. 1931)
