Cycling advocacy consists of activities that provide greater safety, comfort, and convenience for cyclists by advocating for and establishing better cycling infrastructure (e.g. establishing bike lanes and separate bike paths, improving road quality on bike routes, establishing more and better bicycle parking etc.); by providing legal protections for cyclists by including cycling interests in new legislation; by educating cyclists and motorists; by increasing public and political support for bicycling; and by communicating the health, environmental and social benefits of cycling for both individuals and communities.
There are many organizations worldwide whose primary mission is to advocate for these goals. Most are non-profit organizations supported by donations, membership dues, and volunteers.

Famous quotes containing the word cycling:
“I shall not bring an automobile with me. These inventions infest France almost as much as Bloomer cycling costumes, but they make a horrid racket, and are particularly objectionable. So are the Bloomers. Nothing more abominable has ever been invented. Perhaps the automobile tricycles may succeed better, but I abjure all these works of the devil.”
—Henry Brooks Adams (18381918)
