Distribution and Habitat
In eastern Africa, the Crowned Eagle's range extends from southern Uganda and Kenya, forested parts of Tanzania, eastern Zambia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Swaziland and eastern South Africa about as far south as Knysna.
From eastern and southern Africa, its range also extends westward through the Congolian and Guinean forests, but it is now rare in many parts of West Africa.
The Crowned Eagle inhabits mainly dense woodlands, including those bordering rainforest, but will sometimes also be found in relict patches, wooded escarpments, riparian strips of Acacia, heavily wooded hillsides, and rocky outcrops throughout its range. In southern Africa, it may range secondarily into plantations, usually of eucalyptus, and (in Zimbabwe) can be found in quite open woods with Adansonia trees and may occasionally forage in savanna and secondary growth. The Crowned Eagle may be found from an altitude of sea-level to at least 3,000 m (9,800 ft). Owing to lack of current suitable habitat, the eagle's range is discontinuous.

Famous quotes containing the words distribution and/or habitat:
“My topic for Army reunions ... this summer: How to prepare for war in time of peace. Not by fortifications, by navies, or by standing armies. But by policies which will add to the happiness and the comfort of all our people and which will tend to the distribution of intelligence [and] wealth equally among all. Our strength is a contented and intelligent community.”
—Rutherford Birchard Hayes (18221893)
“Nature is the mother and the habitat of man, even if sometimes a stepmother and an unfriendly home.”
—John Dewey (18591952)
