Violent and Organised Crime

The violent crime rate in Bucharest remains very low, with 11 murders and 983 other violent offenses taking place in 2007. In 2011 there were 34 recorded murders. Relative to the population of approximately 3 million (unofficially) this makes Bucharest the safest European capital. Although there have been a number of recent police crackdowns on organised crime gangs, such as the Cămătaru clan, organised crime generally has a reduced impact on public life.

Famous quotes containing the words violent and, violent, organised and/or crime:

...Negroes must concern themselves with every single means of struggle: legal, illegal, passive, active, violent and non- violent.... Life and language are alike sacred. Homicide and verbicide—that is, violent treatment of a word with fatal results to its legitimate meaning, which is its life—are alike forbidden.
    Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr. (1809–1894)

A Conservative government is an organised hypocrisy.
    Benjamin Disraeli (1804–1881)

    Barbara Ehrenreich (b. 1941)
