County Trunk Highways (Wisconsin) - History

History

County Trunk Highways first came into being in 1921. The first county highways were independent of the state's Trunk Highway System and lacked state legislative approval. Famous quotes containing the word history:

The history of his present majesty, is a history of unremitting injuries and usurpations ... all of which have in direct object the establishment of an absolute tyranny over these states. To prove this, let facts be submitted to a candid world, for the truth of which we pledge a faith yet unsullied by falsehood.
    Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826)

Whenever we read the obscene stories, the voluptuous debaucheries, the cruel and torturous executions, the unrelenting vindictiveness, with which more than half the Bible is filled, it would be more consistent that we called it the word of a demon than the Word of God. It is a history of wickedness that has served to corrupt and brutalize mankind.
    Thomas Paine (1737–1809)

History takes time.... History makes memory.
    Gertrude Stein (1874–1946)
