Famous quotes containing the words relations, roman, catholic and/or church:
“Words are but symbols for the relations of things to one another and to us; nowhere do they touch upon absolute truth.”
—Friedrich Nietzsche (18441900)
“I cannot call Riches better than the baggage of virtue. The Roman word is better, impedimenta. For as the baggage is to an army, so is riches to virtue. It cannot be spared nor left behind, but it hindereth the march; yea and the care of it sometimes loseth or disturbeth the victory.”
—Francis Bacon (15611626)
“The Catholic Church has never really come to terms with women. What I object to is being treated either as Madonnas or Mary Magdalenes.”
—Shirley Williams (b. 1930)
“Waste and void. Waste and void. And darkness on the face of the deep.
Has the Church failed mankind, or has mankind failed the
Church?”
—T.S. (Thomas Stearns)
